Wellbeing Surveys

Supporting Children’s Wellbeing

At our school, your child’s wellbeing is extremely important to us. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels happy, valued, listened to and supported.

To help us understand how our children are feeling and to ensure that their voices are heard, we survey all children in Years 1–6 twice each year. These surveys provide us with valuable information about children’s experiences, feelings and wellbeing.

  • Years 1 and 2: We use the ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) Survey, a child-friendly measure that gives younger children an opportunity to share their views and feelings about areas such as happiness, school enjoyment, safety and worries.

  • Years 3–6: We use the Stirling Children’s Wellbeing Scale, a validated wellbeing measure designed for children aged 8–15. It explores aspects of positive emotional wellbeing, outlook and relationships.

The information we gather helps us to:

  • listen to pupil voice and understand what matters to our children;

  • identify any areas where children may need additional support;

  • recognise patterns or gaps across different year groups;

  • plan appropriate whole-school or targeted interventions;

  • monitor the impact of support and identify where further action may be needed; and

  • continually improve our approach to children’s emotional health and wellbeing.

We believe that listening to children is central to supporting them well. These surveys are one of the ways we make sure that children have a voice in shaping the support and experiences we provide.

While survey responses help us to identify areas for further exploration, they are just one part of our wider approach to wellbeing. We also encourage children to talk to trusted adults in school whenever they need help or support.
