This half term in Pixie class our new topic is ‘On the Farm.’ We have many new exciting learning opportunities based around this topic including learning all about farm animals and what they give us. We have many lovely texts to read including ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘Farmyard Hullabaloo’ by Giles Andreae.
We will also be looking at growing and the children will be helping to plant vegetables in our garden area.
P.E
This term we will begin our P.E lessons with Miss Jordan and Mr Kirk. Our sessions will be as followed:
AM Nursery- Every Thursday
PM Nursery- Every Tuesday
Please ensure your child comes into school wearing their P.E kit on these days.
Read, Write, Inc
This term we will begin to formally teach Read, Write, Inc phonics during our daily sessions. Here are some videos that will give you some more information about RWI and how you can support your child’s learning at home: What is Read, Write, Inc:
How to say the sounds:
Library Books
Once a week your child will have the opportunity to select a library book to take home and read. These books will be collected every Tuesday and a new book given every Friday.
Clothing
Please ensure that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing for the weather. Nursery use the outdoor area in all weathers, therefore please ensure your child has a waterproof coat. We have welly boots available for the children to wear in the wet weather.
Please ensure that your child has a spare change of clothes at nursery, including underwear and socks. All items of clothing should be named.
Tapestry
At Cooks Spinney we use an online learning journal called Tapestry, through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). On it, we record observations, comments and photos to show your child’s progress throughout their time in our EYFS, this complements the other forms of observing and assessing that take place.
With Tapestry, you are able to access your child’s learning journal from a computer or mobile device at any time. Email notifications are sent out to inform you when new observations have been added. This will allow you to keep up to date with your child’s progress, and see what they are doing at school. We also encourage you to share evidence from home to contribute to your child’s journal.
You can view your child’s learning journal via https://tapestryjournal.com or by downloading the ‘Tapestry’ App on mobile devices.
If you have any questions, please come and speak to a member of the nursery team.
