Year 3 - Ducks and Otters

Summer 2022

We hope you have all had a lovely May half term break and are ready to get stuck into our topics for this half term.

Curriculum

In PSHE, we will be concentrating on why we should keep active and sleep well. We will be discussing why exercise and sleep are important and how we can find the right exercise and sleep habits for us.

In Computing, we will be deepening our understanding and confidence in the computer programme Scratch. By the end of the unit each child will be able to plan and create a project within this programme, identifying and dealing with any bugs.

In Music, we will be exploring and learning the song Bringing us Together. We will listen to different styles of music and discuss our favourites.

In R.E., we are learning about Buddhism. We will be exploring the life and teaching of the Buddha, and how Buddhists today live and worship.

In Science, we will be continuing our investigation of Forces and Magnets. We will be planning and taking part in lots of experiments around pushes, pulls, and magnetism.

P.E.

P.E. takes place for Year 3 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Your child must come to school in correct P.E. kit on these days. Failure to have the correct kit is likely to result in them not being able to participate in the lesson. Please see the school website for more information regarding the P.E. kit requirements. If your child has their ears pierced, they will be required to either take the earrings out, or cover them with tape, for the lesson. Please remember that Cooks Spinney only allows small stud earrings in school.

Homework

As you may be aware, Cooks Spinney has adopted an online homework policy. Your child’s Mathletics and Spelling Shed homework will be set on Fridays. We encourage children to read with an adult at least three times per week to build up their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Children will be given a reading book from our class library. Finally, children are reminded to continue TTRS practise at home.

If you have any questions, or would like to have a chat with any of the Year 3 team, please do not hesitate to be in touch.

Yours faithfully,

Miss Dunlevy, Miss Parker and Ms Massanka
