To benefit from the wonder of books throughout the holiday period, book lovers in all year groups are encouraged to complete various reading challenges, from reading a book aloud to the tune of their favourite winter song, to building a pillow fort & reading a book inside it. https://t.co/9Mok2SBnbY

Year 3 - Ducks and Otters

Spring 2022

We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas break and are ready to get stuck into our topics for this half term.

Curriculum

In PSHE, we will be concentrating on What families are like. We will be discussing how families can be similar and different; how families show one another they care; and how we can maintain positive relationships with family members we might not live with.

In Science, we will be investigating the different kinds of rocks that make up the Earth and how we can identify them. We will also be learning about fossils and how they are made.

This half term, Year 3 will also be practicing for their performance: Glint of Gold. If your child does not have a script, please speak to the office or one of the Year 3 team so we can make sure they have access. The play is all about the discovery of Tutankhamun and reveals details about Ancient Egyptian life.

P.E.

P.E. takes place for Year 3 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Your child must come to school in correct P.E. kit on these days. Failure to have the correct kit is likely to result in them not being able to participate in the lesson. Please see the school website for more information regarding the P.E. kit requirements. If your child has their ears pierced, they will be required to either take the earrings out, or cover them with tape, for the lesson. Please remember that Cooks Spinney only allows small stud earrings in school.

Homework

As you may be aware, Cooks Spinney has adopted an online homework policy. Your child’s Mathletics and Spelling Shed homework will be set on Fridays. We encourage children to read with an adult at least three times per week to build up their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Children will be given a reading book from our class library. Finally, children are reminded to continue TTRS practise at home as we will be introducing Times Table tests into our weekly timetable.

If you have any questions, or would like to have a chat with any of the Year 3 team, please do not hesitate to be in touch.

Yours faithfully,

Miss Dunlevy, Miss Parker and Mr Price
