Spring Term 2020

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break. This page is designed to provide you with the information needed to make the year as successful as possible.

This half term our RE focus is Buddhism. The children will also be learning computing and music skills. The children will be reading ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’ this term.

Mocks

Your children will be writing their English and Maths mock SATs in February and March. Please continue to support them at home. There will be afterschool boosters available, more information coming soon.

P.E.

Year 6 P.E. days this year will be: Mondays and Thursdays.

Your child must have their P.E. kit on these days. Failure to have it is likely to result in them not being able to participate in the lesson. In addition, children will not be able to participate if they do not have the correct P.E. kit. Please see the school website for more information on the P.E. kit requirements. If your child has their ears pierced, they will be required to either take out the earrings or cover them with tape for the lesson. Please remember Cooks Spinney only allows small stud earrings in school.

Homework and Spellings

Homework will be given out on Fridays and will be due in the following Thursday. This can be found on Mathletics and Reading Eggs. Both are compulsory. Please remember that there will be a homework club Friday after school for children that have no internet access at home. Please sign up for this at the office.  Spellings must not only be practised, but also written into full sentences. If your child does not know the meaning of the word and is unable to find a definition, please make sure they speak to a member of the Year 6 team.

Reading

Reading is an integral part of Year 6.This year we are having a big push to promote a love of reading across the school. It is very important that you ensure your children are reading on a daily basis, and, where possible, ask them questions about what they have read to support their comprehension.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point throughout the year, please speak to either your child’s class teacher or another member of the Year 6 Team.

We wish them all the best in their final year at Cooks Spinney.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Dackombe, Miss Farrell, Mrs Povey.
