Year 3 - Ducks and Otters

Summer 2019

This half term our topic in year 3 is Unknown Worlds – a geography based topic. We will be looking at Creepy Crawlies, Jungles, Rainforests and more.

As readers we will explore non-fiction texts and Charlotte’s Web. Please continue to read regularly with your child at home. Ideally you should be reading for at least 20mins a day.

As writers we will be writing poetry and learning about the vocabulary and grammar used to convey feelings of friendship, and how to entertain.

As mathematicians we will focus on fractions and time. Pupils will learn different ways to compare and order fractions of amounts. Please continue to help your child become fluent in their times tables.

As scientists we will be exploring plants.

As explorers, we will be learning about how people effect the environments (unknown worlds) that we will be looking at.

PE lessons will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays (Otters class) and Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Ducks Class).  Please ensure pupils have their full P.E kit (tracksuit is advised) and trainers to run in.

The homework will be given out on a Thursday and will be expected back in on Wednesday the following week (unless otherwise stated). Homework will be set via Mathletics. Please ensure that your child logs on to complete it. Homework club is available each week on a Friday (3.15-4.15 for those who do not have internet access at home. Please request an application form from the school office. Children should continue to read every day.

Finally, we would like you to thank you for your support and remind you that should you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
