Cooks Spinney Primary Academy and Nursery
PE AND SPORT AT COOKS SPINNEY
Children at Cooks Spinney are given lots of opportunities to participate in sports during and after school. Some of the sports activities that have taken place over the last year include; netball, rounders, cricket, tag rugby, football, athletics, dodgeball, swimming, gymnastics, dance, hockey, table tennis, badminton, cross country, basketball and taekwondo.
By offering lots of different sports clubs and building up our PE and sport resources, we are leaving a legacy for the school community for the future. We have already established a reputation as a ‘sporty school’ over a relatively short time. We will continue to ensure that all future children have the same opportunities as our current children receive now.
In July 2023 we were awarded the School Games Platinum Award which reflects the pride we take in offering children as many opportunities as possible to get involved in sport. We are providing many more opportunities for our children to participate in competitions, through BMAT events and festivals and also by regularly entering teams into to Harlow District Competitions.

Once again, David Stacey gave a huge thank you to all the amazing work to all the school staff and volunteers who helped make this year’s swimming galas such a huge success. Despite a few issues with some weak swimmers, it was amazing to see so many competent swimmers enjoying themselves; even those who were nervous made great progress. Even more pleasing was how ‘slick’ the event was considering there were a couple of issues with teams arriving late for the afternoon; we finished the afternoon by 2.45pm, which delighted the Leisure Zone and makes it easier for us to get a re-booking! David also thanked Gill Pardoe and Nicola Arnold for organising teams and starting the races and to Harry Stacey and Luke Hammond (SGO) for officiating the heats and ensuring medals were given to the winners of the combined heats. I would like to congratulate all the competitors who tried their best. The results were as follows (like cross country, lowest scores were best): Years 3 and 4 Henry Moore – 34 pointsSt Nichoals – 71 pointsJerounds – 93 pointsHoly Cross – 95 pointsChurch Langley – 99 pointsFawbert and Barnard – 102 pointsHatfield Heath - 105 pointsMilwards - 152 pointsCooks Spinney – 155 points Years 5 and 6 Henry Moore – 60 pointsSt Nicholas – 68 pointsChurch Langley – 80 pointsFawbert and Barnard – 81 pointsHatfield Heath – 106 pointsMilwards – 112 pointsLongwood – 133 pointsHoly Cross – 140 pointsJerounds – 170 pointsPurford Green – 183 pointsPotter Street – 200 points. Cooks Spinney – missed 10 races unfortunately due to some students with year 3 & 4 in the morning event couldn’t find some of their belongings and they took a little longer changing than planned. Saying all that, the students still enjoyed taking part in the relay so the students were happy once they got to compete in a race. Thanks to Miss Smith and Mr Defoe for helping with the students on the day! Miss Jordan
